Always changing

It is mesmerizing to sit and watch the ocean. The water is always changing.
Tide in, tide out. Bone crushing waves. Smooth, crystal-clear ripples. Constant transformation before our eyes.
Like the ocean, we are each in perpetual transformation. It is as much about events, experiences, and storms, as it is about age.
The desire is for our transformation curve to be perpetually up and to the right. A smooth, positive line. But, the gift is that the line is full of peaks and valleys.
Were it all peaks, we would lack humility and grace. Were it all valleys, hope would be lost.
Both transform.
Don’t travel with your head down.
When you are at the peak, rather than celebrate, look around. Others are in the valley. Let the peace provided by the peak be fuel to help others.
And, when you are in the valley, know that others have walked the path before you that can provide experience, perspective, an ear. Embrace the help. Never alone.
Rather than the call to embrace your own journey, embrace the journey of others.
Celebrate with those on the peak, seek to be an ear for those in the valley. A text, note, phone call, can change someone’s day.
This will make you a better leader, friend, husband, wife, mom, or dad.
