The Gift
The tendency is to allow the greatest gift we have ever been given to go unused.
“Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.” John 16:7 ESV
Speaking to the disciples, Jesus gave a powerful statement. It is good if He leaves them. But, how can this be?
Because we now have the Holy Spirit in us. POWER.
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, self-control.
Because of the Holy Spirit, Paul could sit in a jail cell and sing hymns and pray. Because of the Holy Spirit, Peter could stand up without fear and proclaim Jesus in front of 3k+ people that had just murdered his friend. Because of the Holy Spirit, Stephen could tell the story of God in front of the High Priest facing certain death for his testimony.
We have this same power in us. Our issue is that we let the Holy Spirit lie in silence in us, allowing the world to guide us. Our goal in life is to allow the Holy Spirit to guide our lives (Galatians 5).
Ever feel down when you shouldn’t be down or afraid when there is nothing to fear or in a bad mood when you shouldn’t be in a bad mood?
Draw on the power of the Holy Spirit.
In practice, I regularly say a quick prayer.
“Holy Spirit, manifest yourself in me. Give me joy.”
Without fail, I immediately find myself recognizing there is no reason not to have joy. The wonderful gifts all around me are illuminated. My family, people around me, my job, health, etc. Why shouldn’t I be full of joy?
If I allow the world to guide, I will see flaws, gaps, issues.
If I allow the Holy Spirit to guide, I will find joy and peace.
Jesus went to Heaven and left us with the greatest gift He could possibly give us, the Holy Spirit. His presence is in us.
Let the Holy Spirit guide your life calling on Him regularly.
