The Light reveals

Each morning, I walk into my home office, pitch black outside and inside. I stumble around, stepping on dog toys, spilling my coffee, looking around for the light switch. I might as well have a blindfold on, as visibility is zero. I put my hand against the wall and finally find the light switch. I flip on the light, and I see clearly. I clean up my spilled coffee, get my desk in order, and relax into my chair.

The light revealed the unseen.

But, imagine that there was no light in my office. Without the light, I would stumble around, become frustrated and confused. What is the sense of walking into a dark office and trying to read? The efforts would be pointless, fruitless, meaningless. Any attempts at reading or study would be empty. I need the light to make sense of the office. I am completely dependent on the light, and I take it for granted.

We must have light to make sense of the world. Light is needed emotionally, as it lifts spirits. As light decreases, some struggle with depression. We must have light for survival.

In the exact same way, Scripture teaches that Jesus is the light that reveals the unseen. Like a light switch, Jesus enters a heart to overcome the darkness. (John 1:4-5)

Until the light is turned on, all will be dark. Without the light, the mind and heart remain dark, the evidence being division, fear, jealousy, anger, feelings of despair, maybe lack of hope. The best intentions, without the light, have pride, ego, and the desire to glorify oneself at the core. With no light, there is only darkness.

But, with the light, darkness evaporates. (2 Corinthians 4:6)

With the light, I can clearly see the world. I become aware of wrong actions and thoughts. I see fear for what it is, a place without the light. I recognize that lack of hope is a place that is in the dark. I just need to turn on the light. Division, jealousy, anger, lack of grace, all just need the light, then I can see.

But, there will always be a pull to the dark. It is a battle. It is as if the world does not want the light to be turned on. The world wants the heart to be veiled. (2 Corinthians 4:4)

The answer to the darkness is simply to turn on the light. (2 Corinthians 3:16-17)

The thing about the light switch in my office example is that I have to turn it on each day. Christ never leaves your heart, but you do have to actively let His Spirit lead, as darkness lurks. You have to turn on the light. (Galatians 5:16,17)

One of my favorite descriptions of Jesus in the Bible is The Morning Star. I love the thought of waking up in the morning and turning to the Star. The day starts with light. 

I read an article yesterday that talked about how what you do before 9am each day dictates the mood of the day. The suggestion was to get a quick win, maybe work out or complete an easy task at work.

The best quick win is to turn on the light.

As, the light always covers the darkness.
