The Value of Purpose
The value of purpose is greater than wealth, power, and title.
Moses, quite possibly the greatest leader the world has ever known, had a singular, deep purpose for his life. Knowing his purpose made him “the most humble man on earth.”
In an interview the week before the Masters Tournament, pro golfer Scottie Scheffler was asked what defines him as a person. He said it wasn’t golf, as that is a “selfish sport.” Rather, Scheffler pointed to his purpose. He said he had been given a platform. He downplayed his talent and leaned into his purpose.
John Calipari, in his interview as the new coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks basketball team, said there was a reason he was at Arkansas, much greater than the game of basketball. There was a reason he was at Memphis, at Kentucky, every stop on his journey. There was always a greater plan and purpose than simply coaching the game.
The thread of purpose is consistent in the lives of the great ones. The purpose is greater than the task at hand. The task achieves the purpose.
Purpose in a life brings humility, a recognition that life is not about oneself. Purpose drives peace as the pressures of the world are relieved. Purpose brings commitment and contentment.
Remember your purpose on the difficult days. Return to your purpose when celebrating wins. It isn’t about you.
