Trust the Deliverer
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:2
The words of King David above are believed to have been written when he was young. Looking back, he rightly described God as “my deliverer.” Throughout his life, facing many enemies, living roughly 20 years as a fugitive, David was saved by God.
This deliverance by God of his people is a consistent picture throughout the Bible.
Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers at about the age of 17. By age 30, he was “over all the land of Egypt,” a position created by King Pharoah. Throughout the period, Joseph was known as a man close to God, blessed by God, given great knowledge and insight by God.
Moses was born during a time that the king of Egypt had given an edict that every Hebrew boy that was born must be killed, thrown into the Nile. Through a series of events, his life was saved, he was raised in the house of the king, and ends up leading millions of Israelites out of slavery in Egypt.
Hannah was unable to have children, a sign of blessings of God. She felt shame, emphasized as “her rival kept provoking her in order to irritate her.” Hannah pours out her soul to God at the place of worship, so much so, that the priest thought she was drunk. Hannah gives birth to Samuel, a great prophet, and five additional children.
Esther was a Jewish girl who lost her mother and father, raised by her uncle. Through a series of events, she becomes Queen of Persia. The King of Persia gives an edict to destroy all the Jews in the land. Because of her role, she is in a position to have the law reversed saving her people.
When you read about Paul’s life in the New Testament, you learn that he was delivered from a life of destroying the church, “going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.” And, Matthew, delivered from a life of deceit to a life of ministry. Job, who lost everything, was delivered and blessed late in life.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8
The God that delivered those in the Bible delivers today.
Consider the journey of your life to this point, recognize and praise the Deliverer that carried you through. Let this build your faith and trust in God.
And, praise the Deliverer that will take care of you today. Approach the throne of grace knowing He is with you and will care for you.
And rest, trusting and knowing that the Deliverer has you in his hand forever. Trust in the Deliverer, not the things of this world. The story has already been written.
God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne. Psalm 47:8
