The message of the experienced
Before we buy, we check the ratings. Before we go, we talk to someone who has been. When making a big decision, we seek the opinion of another that walked the journey.
The message of the one that has experienced adds truth. The message from the one that experienced adds credibility. The message of the one that experienced adds light to what was a dark situation.
John was an eyewitness to the light.
“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5
Sometimes the day turns dark, things happen that are just plain wrong. Sometimes the conversation turns dark, the talk turns negative to others. Sometimes the journey turns dark, everywhere you turn is evil and despair, good is hard to find.
But, God is light.
And, we are given this gift of light.
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7 NIV
We have the ability to walk in darkness but that only happens when we ignore the light. When we walk in the light, we are promised two things.
First, fellowship with others walking in the light. Two people walking in the light are attracted to each other. The same hope. The same faith. The same peace. The darkness hides from light. A mission is life is to find others that walk by the light – friends, community, church, small groups. Go where there is light.
Second, we are purified from our sins. The past no longer haunts but becomes a testimony. The failures of today are washed away. The light cleanses. The light picks one up. The light provides a fresh start every day.
We have this message from an eyewitness. John walked with the light.
We can, too.
Matthew 28:20 – “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20
