Work for others
Since the beginning of time, man was created to work. It was good. Man was created and immediately given a job, to work the Garden. God created “work,” and it was good.
Work has always been a blessing. A job is a gift to serve other people. A job is a gift to practice hospitality. A job fulfills as one positively impacts another. The soul celebrates when one serves.
And, this service is a continuous loop.
One that is served with excellence wants to serve another with excellence. We have a great experience at a restaurant, getting a haircut, at a retail store, and we walk away with a bounce in our step, lifting our spirits, desiring to serve another. It is quite amazing what the gift of work done with excellence can do to another. It creates momentum among others. It is infectious.
Take away the positive impact on another, and work becomes empty, unfulfilling, like chasing the wind. If the goal of work is the title, if the drive is to earn more money, if the desire is power, work becomes pointless. The longing for things that don’t fulfill creates dissatisfaction. Pride is watered but the soul remains dry.
When one faces burnout, job fatigue, lack of joy, could it be an internal longing for things that don’t drive fulfillment? Could a simple refocus on service rekindle the spirit?
Man has turned the journey of work into a burden. Work becomes a personal competition. Work becomes the foundation, the building block for pride. Work was created to bring fulfillment through serving but becomes daunting as one serves themselves.
A flipping of the script to work for others creates a spark in one’s soul. When one’s purpose is to work for others, desire, creativity, and passion return. When one removes the focus from their own life to a focus on lifting others up, the result is internal peace. The battle is won through excellent service.
Each day will always be a battle. Personal desire is always at risk for ruining the day.
But, excellent service is controllable, attainable, maybe even easy. It is a mindset, an attitude, a why for life. We each have the ability to serve.
If one puts others first, business thrives, families thrive, marriages work, and our kids catch it, too.
