Worldview (A letter to my kids)

My prayer for you is that you would have a Biblical worldview, that the Bible is your source of truth.

When society, culture, teachers, religious leaders, leader of our country, or friends make statements as “truth,” you filter the words through what you know in God’s Word. Laws of the land aren’t truth, changing with the next leader. Social media is not truth. The media is not truth. The Bible is the only source of truth. – Do not conform to the behaviors and customs of this world, but let God transform you by changing the way you think, then you will learn to know God’s will, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2

When posed with the question, “what is truth?” I pray that you immediately point to the Bible. If truth is viewed from a worldly standpoint, the water will be cloudy, the grey areas will be wide, but, viewed through God’s Word, it is crystal clear. Man’s customs or beliefs aren’t truth. – “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” Jesus quoting Isaiah Matthew 15:8-9

As truth becomes more relative in our culture, depending on one’s background or the circumstances, hang on to the absolute truth of the Bible. Don’t depend on people’s views or “faith.” Look to God’s Word. – There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. Proverbs 14:12

As you read the news of the day, don’t be full of fear or hopelessness. Just remember God’s words. He is on his throne, in control. – “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 

Don’t look for comfort in the world, but go to God’s Word for the settling of the soul. Looking for comfort in the world will end in despair, regretfulness. C. S. Lewis said, “If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.”

Let the words of Psalm 1 be true of your life.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

There is only one way to have a Biblical worldview, and this is to know the Bible. To know the Bible, you must read the Bible. There is no time better spent than learning truth. – Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105

Long after I am gone, the truth will stand. By knowing the truth of the Bible, you will know the One who saved you, out of which all blessings flow.
