Emotions never sustain.

The underdog team playing at home begins the game on fire. Emotions propel them until they run out of gas. The game goes to one that has the strength below the emotions.

Emotions are powerful but cannot sustain us on the journey of life.

Each day, the journey will be filled with good and bad, wins and losses. If we allow, emotions will drive temporary momentum, a roller coaster life.

Losses pull one into a negative state, sucking confidence and performance. Wins lead one to excessive celebrations leading to complacency, not fully capitalizing on the mo. Like a sailboat without a sail, the emotions of life will toss one to and fro.

And, emotions are not a solo sport. They never act in a vacuum. They radically impact others, quite possibly more than anything else in life. If one panics, everyone panics. If one is negative, everyone in the room is pulled down.

To create long-term, sustained performance, one needs a source deeper than emotions, an anchor below the wins and losses. The emotions will come and go as the current changes, but the anchor will hold the ship steady.

Today, each of us may be racking up wins, riding the high of positive emotions. Or, we be on the wrong end of some battles, dealing with the negative emotions. But, odds are, when we look at our professional and personal lives in totality, there are highs and lows all over the field of play. This will most always be true.

Remember that emotions are temporary. Hang on to your anchor. You need it and others do too.

Impact others. Live generously.
