Burdens

Don’t let busyness blind you of the burden.

Through the normal course of the last week, I met someone early in life that is dealing with major, undiagnosed health issues, I met someone struggling financially trying to figure out the road ahead, and, finally, in a 5-minute conversation with a mom, I heard a penetrating story of how anxiety is robbing her child.

I didn’t necessarily invite these conversations, but they were small interruptions in my flow of the day.

If you pause to think about your last week, you, too, could recall similar stories.

If you are anything like me, you have these conversations, these moments where you are moved, then you dive back into your busy calendar without another thought.

What if we recognize these interruptions in life as opportunities to help carry another’s burden?

We, of course, can’t remove the burden, but we can take time out and be an ear. We can get into the boat. We can encourage. We can follow-up. We can care.

A primary role of any great leader, spouse, friend, dad, mom, or teammate is to carry another’s burden. Embrace that role.

Don’t let the busyness of life blind you.

Two are better than one. A strand of three cords is not easily broken.

Today, invite the conversation. Be the one that helps carry burdens.

“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” Albert Einstein

Impact others. Live generously.
