Lead based on the past
Ever feel like you are not up to the leadership position or task of which you have been called?
Moses was called to a leadership position, seemingly out of nowhere. His resume was light, full of gaps. He was full of fear, questions, using every excuse in the book to get out of the mission. He was not a good speaker, and the people wouldn’t follow him. In his mind, there was no way he could succeed.
Fast forward 40 years, Joshua was handed the baton. His mission was to lead the 1mm+ people into military battle in an occupied land. If there is ever one who should have doubt, it was Joshua.
But, Joshua had a different response. He immediately moves into strategic planning. There is no doubt, no fear, no questions. He jumps into the position and dives into action.
The difference in the two responses can be seen in their prior journeys. Moses had not seen God move in the powerful ways that Joshua had seen.
Joshua had witnessed all that had taken place on the 40-year journey. The pillar of fire, the manna, the quail, Mount Sinai, he had seen it all. His confidence was built on his witness of God in his past. He had faith for the future because of what he had seen God do on his journey.
In the moment, we tend to magnify our own abilities versus magnifying the One who got us to where we are in the first place.
When we doubt our leadership ability or lack confidence in our ability to accomplish the job at hand, purposely lean in. Take the step of faith.
Let our past journey give us fuel for the future.
