Man won’t discover truth alone

If you only know the famous stories of the Bible, for example, Moses and the parting of the Red Sea or Jonah and the whale, you do not know what I am about to share with you. It is the greatest question ever asked.

Jesus is with Governor Pilate, standing outside on a balcony, before an irate crowd screaming for him to be hung on a cross. Deep down, Pilate knows he is innocent. He pulls Jesus inside to talk to him and asks him if he is a king. Jesus stops the conversation and looks Pilate dead in the eye.

John 18:38 – For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth.

He makes one of the most important statements in human history. Jesus says that he came to earth to testify to the truth.

In return, Pilate asks THE most important question in history. The question that has reigned on people’s mind since the beginning of time. The question that people try to answer their whole lives. The question that the world is struggling with today.

Pilate asks, “What is truth?”

And, look no further than the next day to see truth hidden from the public. When Jesus rises again, the leaders get together and create fake news so that people will not believe. The leaders create a scenario where they say that his disciples stole the body.

So, what is truth? Humanity drives itself mad trying to answer this question. Man will never discover the truth on their own, but we look and search endlessly for answers in media, government, religion, history, family, and friends.

Media is at our fingertips. I wake up and the top news stories hit me in the face from all of my various feeds. All media outlets (I stress all), jockeying to capture my mind and form my thoughts and opinions for me. By the time I read all the different sources, I have no clue of truth. Additionally, no government policy or leader is going to deliver perfect truth. Don’t wait for it, because it is not happening. Religion is as divided as it has ever been. Many people have different variations of history. And, family and friends all have a little world in them. Truth from any of these sources will fail you. All of these sources provide ever-changing “truth.”

So, what is truth?

There is another story in the Bible about Jesus walking unidentified with two men after he has risen from the grave. The men are distraught about the death of Christ. They are bewildered, confused, hopeless. They have no idea of truth. The Bible says this:

Luke 24:27 – And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

Jesus explained that the Bible was a story about him. He opened their minds. They said that, “their hearts were burning” while he talked. Later, when he was with the other disciples, the Bible says that Jesus “opened their minds so that they could understand the Scriptures.”

All of these people knew the Scriptures. They knew the stories. They knew the prophecies. However, they did not recognize that all of this pointed to Jesus. He enlighted them and, suddenly, they understood the truth.

So, what did he open their minds to? There are over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament about Jesus, written thousands of years before he hung on the cross. For example, read Isaiah 53, written about 700 years before Jesus appeared. Or, check out Psalm 22, written by King David, 1,000 years before Christ. The truth was illuminated to the disciples.

There is only one version of the truth that is, was, and will be, and man can’t discover it by themselves. Don’t take my word for it. Only God illuminates. Read.
