Blind Spots
Blind spots are called “blind spots” for a reason.
We can’t see them.
One thing every parent teaches the new driver: Check your blind spot when changing lanes. One can’t see this area unless they proactively turn around and look.
The blind spot is important for driving but vital for a career. The proud, in their minds, have no blind spots. The humble seek to know the hidden, the flaws, the tendencies that hold them back.
Great leaders protect the culture of companies and teams by proactively seeking blind spots, areas below the surface that cause division, dissension, angst. Many a team has been destroyed by locker room talk that never reached the coach’s ear.
What a blessing to have those in your circle who are courageous enough to point out the hidden.
As with driving, check the blind spot. Proactively ask and receive with a thankful heart.
