Entrustment

en·trust – to deliver something in trust; to commit to another’s care with confidence in their faithfulness.

We are all entrusted with many things. We have been granted things, free gifts, to care for with faith.

From a business or job standpoint, someone, be it a Board, someone who gave funding, or a boss, has entrusted something to us. It could be a company, a team, or a specific job. Whatever the case, we have been trusted.

The tendency is to get hung up in the value of what has been entrusted, the power of the position, the number of people on the team, the size of that which is managed. The value of what was entrusted doesn’t matter. The value comes from the personal fulfillment of caring for the gift with excellence.

From a family or personal perspective, we may be entrusted with a spouse, children, aging parents, or another family member or close friend. Each of this relationships has been entrusted to you with faithfulness. The role of entrustment is greater than emotion. It is a duty.

The tendency is to allow emotions to dictate entrustment. Emotions change fast. The role of entrustment is greater than emotion. The tendency is to elevate personal fulfillment over faithfulness. Entrustment means checking yourself at the door, focusing on others.

What does it mean to entrust?

• You are a steward of what has been entrusted.
• You recognize the gift of what has been entrusted.
• You are a faithful follower of the one who entrusted.
• You wholly trust the one who entrusted.
• You are all in, 100% committed to that which has been entrusted.
• You humbly receive that which has been entrusted, recognizing grace.

A view that someone entrusted something to you changes your day. A view that you have been entrusted with another’s life changes your life.

We all fail regularly, so let today be a day of personal grace to yourself. You can’t do anything about yesterday.

But, today we can view others, our job, our life us objects which have been entrusted, faithfully given to us for stewarding.
