Find peace

Life is a perpetual journey of searching for peace.

We are promised that peace will come from personal glory, money, friends, your spouse, religion, a job title, a house, or a vacation. You name it, and the world promises that peace will be found.

The promised peace ends up being an illusion. Ask anyone in the fourth quarter of their life.

Peace only comes from the One who knows you better than you know yourself.

“There is one, and only one, who actually and totally knows you. Nobody else even comes close. Your spouse’s knowledge of you, or your best friend’s knowledge of you, compares to Jesus’s knowledge of you is like first-grade math to quantum mechanics. You are fully known by one person — Jesus Christ.” Pastor John Piper

When we read this quote, we may immediately think about disobedience in our life. Maybe our past sin, maybe our present sin, or maybe that sin that is hidden from public view. But, the purpose of Jesus is not to condemn you, wear you out with your disobedience.

What we have to get our mind around is that Jesus sees through all of that and loves you unconditionally. He knows everything there is to know about you and still loves you. He knit you in the womb.

Jesus goes before you, He is with you, and He walks behind you (Psalm 139:5).

He knows your tendencies. He knows the decisions that you make that typically get you in trouble. He knows what makes you angry and frustrated. When two paths are set before you, Christ knows which one you will take. He knows what makes you envy, what motivates you, and what you love. He knows your passions, how you can’t focus when you pray, how you crave glory. Jesus knows everything about you.

“God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.” 1 John 3:20

A rally cry in culture is “I want to be known.” You are! God knows you deeper than any human ever will.

Forget the focus on your disobedience, as this is all of man perpetually. Don’t beat yourself up for mistakes, but focus on the one that knows you personally.

Peace will come when you let Him have control.

“So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.” Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬

If He knows me deeply, knows the decisions I am going to make, knows what motivates me and what drives me, doesn’t it make sense to let Him have control so that I don’t make the perpetual mistakes that rob my peace?

A gift of Jesus knowing you personally is that He can lead you to the one thing that every person on earth desires.

Peace.

Personal Prayer – “God, you know me. You made me. You know my thoughts. You know my heart. You know what I am going to consistently struggle with. You know my tendencies. Yet you love me unconditionally, faults and all. You hem me in, going before me, with me, and behind me. You are the only One that I can talk to that fully knows me. Thank you that I have a relationship with you that I can talk to you. Thank you that you chose me. It doesn’t make sense, but thanks. Lead me and help me follow.”
