Go deeper to go higher
This week, I heard a man tell the story of a construction manager who was hired to build the foundation of the tallest building in Oklahoma City. The foundation took 4 years to build.
The foundation of a skyscraper can range from 65 to 165 feet, with some reaching 325 feet. Imagine a football field of construction under a building.
A solid foundation requires depth. Only then can a tall building securely stand.
This is true of any area of our life.
If we want to go higher, we must go deeper.
Any relationship requires depth to go higher. A solid marriage has a deep foundation. A strong marriage requires time. Years of marriage, years of time spent together through thick and thin, strengthens the core.
Success at work requires depth, consistent learning, consistent hunger. Otherwise, one plateaus. If one wants to elevate their position, spend time on the foundation. The foundation isn’t built over night.
To grow faith, it requires one to spend time going deep, time spent alone with God. A shallow foundation runs the risk of not providing the anchor needed on the journey.
A marathon runner runs 40 to 70+ miles a week for months to run the 26.2 miles in the race. The race requires a strong foundation. The foundation gives one the strength to keep going when the mind wants to quit.
The desire is to get the glory without the foundation. Praise without depth, the work done in the dark, results in lack of humility. When one knows the work that has been put in, one is humbled by the process. Ask any entrepreneur.
Foundational work is done in the dark, when no one sees. There is no glory in building the foundation. The spotlight is not on the person building in the trenches.
Foundations take time. Foundations prepare one to leave a meaningful legacy. Strong foundations impact others. Depth naturally builds confidence, preparing one for the journey ahead.
If you are struggling in any area, if you want to go higher in life, go deeper. Spend time doing the deep work.
Day by day, out of the spotlight, build the foundation. Others will be impacted.
