Lose your identity to impact others.

How do you introduce yourself when meeting someone?

Maybe job title, accomplishments, or even honors that you have received. We all have something in that intro that we use to draw immediate equity, honor, respect.

Our self worth can get tied up in that introduction. That becomes our identity. If we lose that identity, we struggle.

It was different for Mary Magdalene about 2,000 years ago.

She had an identity she wanted to lose. Her identity was not one to bring pride. She had no background to share, no accomplishments. She had lived a life of torment, no peace. Hope, joy, and happiness had been destroyed by the demons of life.

But, Jesus miraculously cleansed her. He gave her newfound life. His compassion ran through her veins.

Mary Magdalene’s identity changed immediately. I imagine when one met Mary after that experience, she beamed with grace and compassion as she told you her background. All credit to Jesus.

And, she never left his side, forever compelled to follow him, caring for him as he changed the world.

On that Friday before Easter, Mary Magdalene watched in horror as Jesus cried in agony and pain. The one that had given her a new identity, who had brought her peace, who had literally changed her life was left to die on the cross.

And after that death, she had nothing. There was no hope, nothing to do, nowhere to go.

She connected with Mary, Jesus’ mother, and went to anoint his body in the tomb early that Sunday morning. When she arrived, the smile must have spread across her face. Tears must have welled up in her eyes. He was indeed alive!

Mary Magdalene’s identity was back. And, her legacy impacts other’s today.

Make sure your identity matches the legacy that you want to leave.

Leave a legacy that makes a difference in other’s lives.

Impact others. Live generously.
