Faith grounds emotions

Emotions are lightning bolts of energy.

Consider the negative emotions you will face every day of your life. The frustration when things don’t go as planned. The disappointment when someone lets you down, a spouse, child, friend, co-worker. The wave of negative emotions that come with comparisons to other people.

The lightning bolts of negative emotions come in suddenly. Nothing we can do about it. Negative emotions mean we are human.

Externally, negative emotions act as a magnet. They pull others in to the turmoil.

Internally, negative emotions rob joy and peace. They quietly eat at the soul, always present.

Psychological flexibility – “you acknowledge and accept your emotions, but they don’t control you.” Dan Sullivan

There may be no greater impact to your life, your family, your marriage, your career, than psychological flexibility.

In nature, what protects one against lightning? Staying grounded. Grounding provides “a safe and stable path for electricity to escape.”

In our lives, faith has the same benefit, acting as a grounding agent to deal with negative emotions. Faith provides a stable path for negative emotions to escape.

“Faith allows you to trust the direction without needing to understand it.” Rick Rubin

It has been said that emotions are the shallowest part of our beings. But, faith is a deep river that grounds us when the negative emotions come.

When the negative emotions hit today, this week, impact others by staying grounded in your faith.

Companies, families, spouses, and children need leaders that draw on faith to steady the ship, to provide stability when the storm comes, to trust when the path is uncertain.

Scripture, Hebrews 11:1-3

Impact others. Live generously.
