Seasons

Be aware of seasons.

As I walked outside this morning, I felt the warm air. A first sign that summer is coming.

Just like the weather, we will all move through seasons in life.

As the cool weather announces the coming of fall, there are signs in our lives that mark the changing of seasons. The birth of a child. A child getting their driver’s license. The quiet of a house as kids go to college. The death of a loved one.

Life is busy and fast, and the tendency is to miss recognizing the seasons. But, unlike the weather, life seasons do not revolve. When they pass, they are gone.

When I was in my thirties, a friend asked how he could pray for me. I had the audacity to say that everything in life was great, all was firing on all cylinders, and I couldn’t think of a prayer need. I am not sure that I have ever said anything so blind to seasons (or humility) in my life.

Solomon said, “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.”

There is great power in the awareness of seasons.

The recognition of seasons helps one slow down and love people deeply. You are with them for a moment in time.

And, recognize that everyone around you is in a season of life, as well. Celebrate and mourn with others.

Perception of seasons is a key to leading and loving others well.

 Impact others. Live generously.

Scripture, Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
