“Here, I never had to worry about others having my back.”
My friend said this describing the company he was leaving. He was on a unified team he could trust, but he made the decision to depart for a larger role and recognized the risk of a divisive team and culture.
Division is easy to find. Think through any relationship in life, and you find the risk of division. Business, team, marriage, parent / child, friend. The missing ingredient is trust.
Without trust, selfishness sinks in, self-preservation becomes the focus, performance decreases, and results aren’t delivered. Or, if they are delivered, the journey has no joy and the culture is non-existent.
Inconsistency destroys trust.
During good times, complacency arrives and stewardship leaves. During tough times, pressure rises and self-preservation becomes the focus. The inconsistent behavior tosses trust out the window.
Consistency creates trust.
Trust is built in the dark, brick by brick, action by action, decision by decision. Consistency, no matter the climate, no matter the pressure, no matter where you are in the journey, builds trust.
Let your consistent actions and motives drive trust today.
Cherish the consistent ones in your circle.
Impact others. Live generously.
