Finish strong

65% of the year is finished.

If you are like me, some of the goals have been tossed. Maybe the exercise program hasn’t happened, the trip was not taken, the business is not where you forecasted, the relationship is exactly as it was at the beginning of the year. The first part of the year didn’t go as planned.

The beginning was important, sure, but it isn’t the final statement of the year.

The middle of the year often feels like a whirlwind. Pace is fast, life is moving at full speed. The business is fast, as you sprint toward the finish line. The year never plays out like you thought and the middle is where you are trying to course correct. Maybe your head is spinning a bit. The middle never fills steady.

The middle is important, sure, but it isn’t the final statement of the year.

The most important part of the story is how you finish.

Finish strong.

Focusing on the past clouds our vision for the future. We can do nothing about what has happened so far. Maybe we see failures, things that didn’t work, action that was not taken, the conversation that didn’t happened, the decision that wasn’t made. Regret grows roots and the tendency may be to mail the year in.

But, you still have the opportunity to finish strong.

Maybe it is a good exercise to get alone and do a bit of deep work. What action needs to be taken? Plan the conversation. Work on the relationship. Tighten up the area that is a bit loose. Be transparent.

What is the one thing you want to accomplish that will define the year, give you momentum for next year? We set goals at the beginning of the year, but a great practice is have mid year goals that ensure a strong finish.

The above is so applicable to the seasons of life.

Many a person wish they could throw out the early season. And, many can recount those bad decisions on their journey through mid-life. But, it is the later seasons where legacies are built. We have all seen those that stop running the race too soon.

It is never too late to finish strong. The only requirement is personal grace for any misses on the journey.

Impact others. Live generously.
