The force of unity

Division eats strategy for breakfast.

Unity is the greatest gift to mankind.

Unity is an immovable bond, a force of peace, security, and power. It stands the test of time. It is a treasure to grasp.

But, division seeks all.

Division has no partiality. Every marriage. Every family. Every friendship. Every team. Every company.

The world is set up to divide. Consider the following.

One must have money and possessions, but both can cause envy. One must have a title at work, but titles can denote self-worth, cause comparisons. One must have social media to communicate, but it drives animosity, stirs up fear and anger. One attends church, but denomination or certain aspects of the service feed self-righteousness, the belief that you are the only one doing it “right.”

Deep unity is solidified through Jesus.

Fights, arguments, disagreements will occur, as this is part of being human. But, a foundation built on the Rock gives you a heart that ultimately unifies as one reflects on their own depravity.

Over and over, this truth rings out in the Bible.

A strand of three cords is not easily broken, a house built on a rock does not fall, a house divided will not stand, husband and wife are one, the Holy Spirit drives one to unity, the picture of the early church was radical unity giving their possessions to each other, Paul’s short letter to Philemon was a call to unify with another.

The call to unity is a primary message to us in Scripture. And, the awesome thing is that it might be the most easy to attain. 

But, nevertheless, at certain points on life’s journey, this truth is hard to see. It seems taking sides, having hard opinions, being immovable on certain stances, is how one should show up in life. Immovable. Overly confident. Always right. Have no middle ground. 

But, the longer one lives, the more you see the role that unity plays in peace, in a life well lived. And, more evident, is the havoc that divisions wreaks on lives.

The thing about division is it impacts the masses, it is a domino. Two people divided always impacts many.

But, even more powerful is unity. Two people united can live harmoniously forever in marriage. A family united always has a place where the water is still. A united team wins championships. For a united company, no hurdle is insurmountable.

Unity overcomes all barriers. Unity is a gateway to love. Unity provides perpetual peace.

Unity is indeed the greatest gift to mankind.
