What if this is true for our lives?

Joseph had been through an unimaginable life journey, from being sold into slavery by his brothers to imprisoned in Egypt to reaching the pinnacle as the key leader of Egypt behind Pharaoh. Reflecting on his life, he recognizes that it was all meant for good. God had a greater purpose through his life. It wasn’t about him.

What if this is true for my life? What if this is true for your life?

The truth is that, just like Joseph, the journey that I am on is not actually for me. My journey, my story, all the wins, all the loses, all the trials, the wilderness, every season has a greater purpose that has nothing to do with me. The valleys that I have gone through serve a role of bringing that greater purpose to fruition. The wins are not to put me on a pedestal but to achieve something greater.

The purpose is other people. God’s purpose for Joseph’s life, His purpose for my life, is for others.

This is the thread of Scripture. The life of Jesus had a purpose. The wins, the losses, were all part of the plan. The purpose was about others. Mary, Peter, Mary Magdalene, Paul, their life purpose was not about them. The purpose was about others.

This is us.

The issue with me, and maybe you, is that I am fooled into making life all about me. I might say it is about others. However, in truth, the battle always rages within the mind, showing up in so many ways, so many conversations, driven by pride and always causing inner turmoil. When life is about me, I inevitably find myself flat, unfilled, fighting the present, and, eventually, full of remorse.

But, that isn’t the plan. The plan is for me to realize that the gift of life is much, much bigger than me.

The author of the journey is the key. The journey, the wins, the losses, the wilderness, require daily submission to the greater purpose. Because His purpose for your life is greater, is better, is pleasing, is perfect.

And, ultimately, His purpose for your life is to radically impact others through you – your spouse, your kids, your family, your friends, your co-workers, everyone in your sphere.

When I realize this truth, my journey has much at stake. It becomes solely about impacting others. That purpose is worth leaving it all on the field.

Impact others. Live generously.
