Staying Leaves Legacies

Michael Jordan was with the Chicago Bulls thirteen years. He won his first championship after he had been with the team seven years. In his first year, the Bulls won only forty percent of their games. He is going down as, arguably, the greatest who ever played the game. For the record, I would argue he is the GOAT.

Tom Brady was with the New England Patriots twenty years. The Patriots finished with a 5–11 record his first year, last place in the division. The next year Brady led them to a Super Bowl on his way to seven titles. He is going down as one of the greatest to ever play the game.

I imagine you know someone, maybe a grandfather or grandmother or mom or dad, who spent their entire career at one company. That twenty-plus-year career left a legacy. Ask anyone at that company about the person, and they have a story. That individual left a mark, influenced others.

Of course, transfer and change are necessary and wise at times, but history teaches us that there is great power in staying.

When one stays, his circle of influence expands. Deep relationships are formed. Blessings are celebrated. Doing life with another, shoulder-to-shoulder, creates depth.

When one stays, endurance and grit are learned. Inevitably, storms will come and go over the years, and each one has a powerful life lesson.

When one stays, something influential, meaningful, enduring, can be built. Brick-by-brick, over the years, the company, marriage, friendship is a powerful exhibit to the world.

In a world where we are coached to transfer, where “opportunities” abound for a quick jump, before taking the leap, count the cost and consider the power of staying. History has proven its value.

Staying exhibits consistency. Consistency leaves a legacy.
