Being other centric is magnetic.
None are immune. There is an innate desire to feed self, to be seen, to do things your way, to preserve self.
So, when you see an other centric person in action, it is different. It is magnetic. It creates loyalty.
My wife and I were out of town for a couple of nights. Middle of no where, not much going on. Late the first night, we finally found a restaurant that was open, walked in, and an energetic server told us to seat ourselves.
The entire evening became special, as we talked to our server, learned about the area and her life, and truly became friends. Her energy filled us with joy. After an hour, one of her co-workers came by, and we learned that the kitchen had been closed. The server had asked the kitchen to remain open to take care of us.
Upon leaving, our waitress told us to come visit her at another restaurant where she waited tables the following morning, as they had “great breakfast.” Well, long day, late night, not really interested in breakfast the next morning. But, guess what? Loyalty kicked in. We went to the restaurant simply to honor our new friend.
Was the food good at dinner and breakfast? Sure, it was fine. But, the meals didn’t draw us in. Our loyalty to our friend, how she worked, her energy, her delight in serving created a desire in us to be around her, to support her.
Every room we enter today, in every conversation we have, we will either suck the energy out creating division or fill the room with joy and optimism creating unity.
A self centric attitude is magnetic. It stands out. It creates loyalty.
