Emotions
Ever consider the impact that your emotions have on others?
“The January weather is cold, but the water is hot.”
A friend said this to me as we talked about the New Year, our aspirations, endeavors, professional careers. He found a way to succinctly describe the pressure he was under.
Temp ever go up in your life?
At some point, most, if not all, will face intense pressure this year, either professionally or personally. If we don’t have a way to relieve the pressure, we will not only impact ourselves, but others will be severely impacted as well. When we show pressure, it has a domino effect on my spouse, my kids, my co-workers, even my dog. The faster we find a pressure release valve to get us grounded, get our head on straight, the faster we can get back to managing our own health and impacting others positively.
So what is your pressure release valve?
I have two go-to’s for pressure release.
First, exercise. I exercise for my head, to get away. Good health is just a by-product. By the way, I am not saying I am healthy. Check my diet.
Second, meditation. This can take many forms depending on one’s faith or background. For my faith, it is time alone with God. He quiets the soul. Time alone each day with yourself, in your own thoughts, is indeed chicken soup for the soul.
Maybe the water is hot for you, and you are wondering how you are going to make it through another year. Find a pressure relief valve. Or, maybe the water temp is perfect in your life right now. No better time to find that relief valve than before the water gets hot.
Personal disciplines have a tremendous impact on others.
My Atomic Habit friends out there tell me if you do anything for 66 days it becomes a habit.
It could be day 1 for you today!
Impact others. Live generously.
