Loyalty
Proverbs 19:22 – Loyalty makes a person attractive.
Regardless of your beliefs, the Bible is full of wisdom, practical advice that will lead one to a rich life. A great example is the verse above. Loyalty does make a person attractive. However, it is hard to find.
When I think of loyalty, I think of my mom. Mom and Dad were married for over 50 years. As dad battled cancer and Parkinson’s disease, Mom cared for him consistently, constantly. As his health deteriorated over the years, she served. When the casket was ready to be closed, the funeral worker asked Mom if she wanted to remove his wedding ring. She told him to leave it on Dad’s finger, as, during their marriage, he had never removed it. Incredible loyalty.
Loyalty is an evasive quality in our world today. Recent surveys say that the median employee tenure is about 4 years. Some surveys say that the graduating senior will have over 12 jobs in a year. I read a stat recently that 60% of couples who get married between the ages of 20-25 will end in divorce. Overall, the divorce rate is about 50%. Enter any conversation, and, at some point, the words are directed at others. Be it spouses, friends, co-workers, family members, or bosses, loyalty is hard to find.
In my book, The Anchor, I wrote 9 lessons for my kids to follow. Lessons that I have learned as I journey through life. Lesson 7 is below:
Lesson 7: Don’t judge others.
In our culture today, the focus of many a conversation is other people. We eat people for lunch. God, however, is the only judge. Learn from my life that everyone messes up. We are not the ones to point fingers, call people out. We are ones who love, no matter what.
I have learned the value of loyalty. It is a difference maker in society. There are few that are genuinely loyal, and this quality will set you apart.
Without exception, I believe the most underutilized, underappreciated book is the Bible. Whether you are a Christian, an atheist, a believer in God, whatever, the Bible is an invaluable resource for history, a view of mankind. It is a literary masterpiece. The Bible is full of simple reminders and lessons to guide you through life. I have learned how the practical advice of this book will lead one to a successful, rich life. Check it out for yourself.
