Flip the Script in Life
2020. It is amazing that typing those four numbers bring up the same feelings in most everyone. Isolation. Discontent. Lack of truth. Survival. Bitterness. Confusion. Disarray. Lack of joy. Loneliness. Lack of normalcy. Negativity.
Every area of life has been disrupted. Family. Friends. School. Church. Sports. Vacations. Holidays. Business. Areas of life that once brought an escape, are no more. All areas of life that once brought joy, seemingly have disappeared. Our tendency is to focus on ourselves, focus on our frustrations, focus on how everything is disrupted, not right, focus on all that is negative.
Flip the script. Focus on others.
In Genesis 12:2 and 3, God tells Abraham that he will bless him, and “you will be a blessing” and
“all people on earth will be blessed through you.” Abraham was blessed by God and, in turn, his life would be a blessing to others. From that point on, Abraham’s life was about others.
Thousands of years later, Jesus came to earth. He taught, through his words and his actions, how to serve others. His entire life, even until his death, was about grace and service.
After his death, we see radical service from the disciples of Jesus. They were not focused on themselves, but on others. In Acts 2 and 4, we see a picture of people selling their possessions to give to others.
So, here we are in 2020. Isolation and confusion abound. Our current world fights against focusing on others, but, recognize that this is just a mirage. The world is begging for servant hearts.
If you have read this far, stop and think about others in your circle for a second. Someone needs an act of service from you. Storms of life abound.
Take one step today to serve someone else. Could be a text, a card, a meal, a prayer, a phone call, a conversation, a lunch, a coffee, an apology. Repeat the process tomorrow. Serving others will bring life back.
Flip the script this Thanksgiving.
Impact others. Live generously.
