Commitment

“all day all day”

My two daughters approached me last year with a request to get a tattoo that reads “all day all day.”

We are not exactly sure where the saying began, but, since they could barely walk, it has been an exchange.

I say, “how much does dad love you?”

The return is “all day all day.”

I can still remember those little girls in their cribs, barely able to pronounce the words, saying “all day all day.”

And, it continues today. “All day all day” is always our parting saying to each other.

On the good days, in the midst of the storms, no matter the season that is our cry of unity.

So, when asked to get the tattoo by my daughters, I was all in.

“All day all day” equals deep, unending commitment in our relationship.

Perhaps there is no greater quality in life, leadership, or business that impacts others.

Commitment makes you care. Commitment is the foundation of integrity. Commitment dissolves the worry of what others will think. Commitment motivates others. Commitment enables one to give grace. Commitment moves mountains.

When there is commitment between people for something greater, unity will be driven. The storms will be faced together. The wins will be celebrated with each other. You don’t worry about your back but focus on that which is greater.

Remove commitment, and the focus on self takes over. Relationships become strained. Cultures become political. Teams lack unity. Life becomes about personal survival.

It is interesting how culture seems to fight commitment today, from sports to business to relationships. Commitment is almost devalued.

However, it could be argued that no quality brings more unity or impacts more people in a relationship, as a leader, or in business than commitment.

Let your spouse, your kids, your team, your company know your commitment today. That will drive unity.
