Perspective in life

Perspective in life is gained in life’s interruptions.

Efficiency is critical in today’s fast paced world. Each day is spent bouncing from subject to subject, opportunity to opportunity. More data is coming at us, more information to consume and translate. The inbox is full. The task list is long. A microwave culture. Model efficiency so others follow. Don’t stop running or the world will pass you by.

Then, the interruption happens. Life stops.

The phone rings. The text arrives. The person stops by your desk. Maybe a teammate needs to process heavy things going on in life. Everyone is carrying a weight. Maybe a storm immediately arrives in a friend or co-worker’s life. Life storms never give warning. Maybe your spouse needs you to take time out to reconnect. The signs have been flashing. Maybe a child is waving their hand in the background of life, “look at me!” On and on, the interruptions will come.

The tendency is to acknowledge the interruption and quickly move back into the fast-paced life.

Allow the clock to stop.

Be the person that fully engages in the interruption. Be the spouse or mom or dad that checks out, disconnects, and dives into the pause. Be the leader that allows space and time for the time out. Be the culture that recognizes life is about people, relationships, and the interruptions of life. Be all in.

Let today’s interruption be the reminder of what life is all about. Let our legacy be of one that lived fully in the interruption.

Impact others. Live generously.
