Other Centric
A simple call today. Live other centric.
Other centric unites. Ego centric divides. An other centric mindset means that one lives a life that is about others. While an ego centric mindset puts one’s self first, at the center. Life is lived selfishly.
At the root of any conflict or division is an ego, putting one’s self over another. A marriage, a family, a friendship, a sports team, a country, a company, a church, you name it, if division exists, rest assured that an ego centric mindset is at the core.
Think about it. If one enters the day with an other centric mindset, ready to serve, focused on lifting others up, this person will create unity. People that interact with this person will walk away changed, inspired, motivated to do the same.
Zig Ziglar, the great motivational guru, said it this way. “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.
In the book, “All I Ever Needed to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten,” by Robert Fulghum, all of his principles are other centric. After all, from the moment they are born, kids fight an ego centric mindset, and parents push them to becoming other centric. They have to learn it, catch it from their parents and others. If a leader is ego centric, the follower will be also.
Some may think the Bible is a book that divides, but if one reads the words of Jesus, examines his life, they will see a man that was perfectly other centric. He said it this way. “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.” This theme is consistent in life.
Being other centric doesn’t include defining what other centric means to your neighbor, by the way. At the core of being other centric is respect, understanding, and, most importantly, grace.
So, this is a simple call today to be other centric. Your marriage, your kids, your co-workers, the world needs it. And, let it be like a domino that falls on other people, laying one’s life down for others. That is what Christ did.
