Just Begun – A Valentine’s Poem
So, I started to write about Mary Magdelene this morning, an amazing woman whose life was changed by God’s grace. One moment, she was fighting demons, and the next, she was passionately following Jesus. She followed Him to the cross, then to his grave. Awesome woman, awesome picture of the love of Christ.
But, since this blog is really for my kids, I thought I would include a poem today that I wrote for their mom. After all, my love for their mom is the greatest gift I could give them today. Cue the cheesy violin music.
Just Begun – A Valentine’s Poem, 2021
What would I say to my Valentine’s to mesh,
It’s been 20 years, so what would be fresh?
Really nothing different, as it has been the same,
Times have definitely changed, but we still have the name.
The name is one thing that locks us as one,
The name represents that you and me have just begun.
“Just begun,” such a curious phrase that I would use today,
But if you think about our life, I really feel this way.
It is a bit corny, made famous in movies and shows,
But give it a thought, and it fits perfectly in prose.
“Just begun” means certainly that there really is no end,
Every day is a start together, running the race of life to win.
“Just begun” means there is a past, that you can look to with faith,
Knowing Him that made you one, knitted you together with His grace.
“Just begun” means there is a future, one that we don’t exactly know,
We just cling together, knowing that off on the journey we go.
“Just begun” represents unity, as you travel the path as one,
Looking back confidently, knowing that the battle has been won.
With this security in place, “just begun” is a freeing, constant phrase,
To let us dance on this earth, ’till we go to the eternal place.
So, with “just begun” I’m optimistic thinking what the future holds,
I don’t know it exactly, but I grasp hands with you and go bold.
But, perhaps most important, “just begun” means now, times just like today,
Let’s live for each other, those around us, showing them the Way.
Because we know the truth, our marriage is a picture of a binded heart,
Faith, love, trust, and unity, you and me ’till death do us part.
So, as you see the phrase “just begun,” let it remind you of a future of fun,
That we rest in with faith, knowing uniquely just how far we have come.
I love you, my Valentine, whatever road we take, we will run.
“Just begun,” you and me, hand in hand, the journey we go as one.
I love you, yesterday, today, and forever.
