Trust

Trust is hard to gain. The core of trust is that one knows that an individual’s spoken words and promises are true. As time passes, and words and actions match, trust increases. To fully trust, one believes, without a shadow of doubt, in what another person speaks and does. They have your back. You could put your life in their hands. Marriages, friendships, companies break down because of the lack of trust. To have someone to trust in life is a rare gift to be cherished.

Who do you trust?

In Exodus, we see God leading Moses to King Pharaoh through an unbelievable series of miraculous plagues against Egypt. God speaks, Moses trusts, and each miracle of God through the plagues increases his faith. From frogs to locusts to darkness, the plagues destroy Egypt and Moses is no doubt astounded at the work of his Father. Finally, after 9 plagues, God tells Moses what is about to happen with the final plague.

God tells Moses to instruct the Israelites to sacrifice a lamb, without blemishes, then to take blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of their house. God then explains to Moses what will happen next.

“On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt. Exodus 12:12-13

The words of God are astounding, unbelievable. Does Moses believe? Of course! Remember, he had murdered a man and fled for his life, ending up as a shepherd for 40 years. God approached him to lead the people out of Egypt. After much doubt and lack of trust, Moses follows. He has seen God do incredible miracles in his life and in Egypt. So, does Moses trust God? Without a shadow of doubt he does.

The Israelites did just what the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron. At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock as well. Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and there was loud wailing in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead. Exodus 12:28-30

God’s words again came to fruition.

In fact, God’s promises always come to fruition. His words are true. The Bible is full of prophecies in the Old Testament that came true in the New Testament. The greatest prophecy can be read in Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22, a detailed description of the Cross written about 650 years before it happened.

If you ever feel confused, hopeless, or wonder what God’s will is for your life, He gave us a book of His words, promises that we can all trust. His words settle the soul and give us direction. As Moses learned, He is the greatest One to trust.
