I am reading through the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John chronologically. Crazy stuff. I have read the words many times, but, when I stop and think about what I am reading, it is truly mind-blowing.
When you read about Jesus, it is unbelievable. It reads like a fairy tale. You either shelve the writings of the Bible, particularly Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, or you stand amazed at the truth that any person could do these things. Because, if it is true, everything changes.
Consider this. Jesus gave a blind man his sight again. He walked on water. He fed 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish. He pulled demons out of people. Jesus made a dead man, already in a tomb wrapped in cloth, walk out alive. He turned water into wine (that seems like an easy one in comparison). He is transfigured and has a conversation with Moses and Elijah, who both had been dead for over 1,000 years. He healed the deaf. They couldn’t hear a thing, then immediately they could hear. He especially loved kids. As a family mourned over the death of their daughter, he walks in the room and brings her back to life. He pulled evil spirits out of adults and kids. Jesus healed the lame. They get up and walk normally. He controlled nature. When seas were rough, he simply spoke and the water stilled. And, Jesus died on a cross, was put in a tomb, and came back to life three days later.
Either these writings are the truth or they are a fairy tale.
Consider this. The calendar that controls our lives is marked BC or AD, with the dividing point being the death of Jesus. The world stops on the birthday of Jesus. Everything stops. We also celebrate Easter, the day he rose again. The number one selling book in the world is the Bible, selling over an estimated five billion copies. Most of you certainly have one in your home. The cross is a symbol recognized immediately. Everyone recognizes the symbol and knows what it means. Mention the name of Jesus, and the room is divided like no other name can do. People died for his name throughout the Bible, and, today, people across the world will die for him. It is estimated that over 2 billion people believe in Jesus. It is estimated that these people worship in 37 million churches. These numbers are estimates, but let’s assume that they are even remotely close. After Jesus died, the Bible mentions 120 believers. At that time in our history, world population was about 300 million people. Out of these 120 believers came billions of believers in Jesus. Even if these numbers are way off, we are talking about a crazy wildfire that spread.
Either Jesus and his miracles are truth or they are a fairy tale. It can’t be somewhere in the middle. It can be easily discounted, but it takes deep work, deep thinking to consider these truths. Few people will do the deep work. And, these truths are the most important things in life we will ever consider. The only place to confront the truth is in the best-selling book in the world. And, you already have it in your home.
Truth or a fairy tale? If it is true, everything changes.
